What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.
“Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally,” says Kabat-Zinn.

Actual Experiences:
Karen worked with kindergarten student who had severe sensory issues and ADD issues. She could not sit still or control her behavior. When Karen worked with her class, the student actually sat down and meditated! The teacher was amazed! It was the first time this young girl sat still. Our bodies want to be in a state of calm, it is the outside influence that distracts our body's natural response to be in that calm state. Karen continued to work with this student. This young girl learned soo much about how to self regulate her sensory issues. At one point, her eyelids were blinking uncontrollably. She learned, through her breathe, to calm her body down. Her blinking stopped.
Karen worked with a defiant fifth grade student. She suffered from anger issues. When Karen began to work with her, she was resistant. However, pretty quickly, she warmed up. After a meditation, this beautiful young soul cried. She experienced a release of emotions.
Karen worked with an autistic student who had zero interest in meditation. However, as she watched Karen meditate, she joined in. She uses her meditation techniques daily with her mom! Her mom states what a beautiful change she is experiencing with her child.
